What decides the Italian marble per sq ft cost?
Variety and rarity
Statuario and Calacatta come from a small number of quarries and are in high demand, so they cost several times more than Carrara or Botticino.
Grade
Every variety is sold in grades. Higher grades have a cleaner background, better vein pattern and fewer natural defects. The same "Statuario" can differ in price many times over between a commercial grade and a premium grade.
Slab size and bookmatching
Large slabs and bookmatched pairs (two slabs cut so the veins mirror each other) cost more per sq ft because they are harder to produce and waste more stone.
Thickness and finish
Most flooring uses 16–20 mm slabs. Thicker slabs cost more. Polished, honed and leather finishes are all available and can change the rate slightly.
Backing and processing
Many Italian slabs are reinforced with a mesh and resin backing. This protects them in transport and on the floor, and is part of the price.
Italian marble vs Indian marble price
Indian marble usually costs ₹55–₹350 per sq ft, so it is far cheaper than most Italian marble. If you like the Italian look but not the price, compare Makrana White or Indian Statuario with the imported stones.
